Firewalls

Premise:

Scope and budget are the key factors in the implementation of a firewall

If you're scope is something that can route traffic and allow/block based on a list most built in firewalls or even all in one appliances with built in firewalls (see )

If you require some sort of then your Scope and budget need to align with the final outcome

Scope

  • List a set of current requirements (policy/protections/protocols/standards)

  • List a set of future requirements (performance, bandwidth, upgrade path all with growth factored in

Budget

Ultimately this comes down to "how much can you spend"

but a budget with that fixated goal is miss guided and "How much should you spend" is a better question

This should be based on the current market for your "Scope", find appliances or hardware that meets these requirements first and if your budget doesnt allow for things listed in your scope then maybe redo your scope to narrow down on something better suited.

<insert a flow chart for firewalls>

Do you need a firewall?

Do you need to route multiple WAN or LAN? (2, 2-4, 8+)

Do you need UTM or a specific service?
